This is a keep alive post. Got myself caught up in daily life but hope to have time to post soon. Hope everyone is in good health.
If this needs to be in Off-topic, please move. Don't know if anyone is conversant with UNIX as used in Linux and the MacOS. I would not mind doing some tracing in a MacOS but would not know where to begin. Seems to me there are a lot of similarities between Linux Unix and the Unix used in MacOS. I am primarily interested in why a 32 bit driver can't run on the new MacOS Big Sur which is a pure 64-bit system. In my naivete I don't see why the 32-bit driver cannot use the lower 32 bits of the 64 bit registers.

you always manage to land in some surly situations :)

Have you dug into this stuff yet for example?

Of course you could just play by the rules and get an updated printer driver, but maybe that's not possible?

Thanks for link...interesting. Not possible to get updated driver for Big Sur since the bandits at HP are trying to get rid of older printers that allow you to refill the cartridge.
It seems Apple is in cahoots with them. The Apple CEO has declared that the future for Apple is in printers. What he means is in ink for printers. The thieving SOBs sell printer dirt cheap and rake in their money from print cartridges. HP charges CAN $75 for a B&W and colour pair. When Big Sur came out, the error message issued by Apple was that using old HP drivers could destroy your system. Later they admitted it was an over-statement and that HP had asked Apple not to renew certificates for older HP printers.
