    $US1 million worth of spam

    An interesting read:

I wanna sue them spammers too.

Why the hell haven't I ever receive a single Viagra spam?

Isn't Viagra "over the counter" in Turkey .

I get plenty of that trash in my email,
even after my ISP filters it.
Move to North America if you want more spam.

Yes it is, and I have a prescription too.

It's not that I want to buy it from the net, I just want an evidence in my mailbox for a possible lawsuit. Anyway, my ISP effectively filters spam. I haven't received any penis or breast enlarger pills, cheap Rolex watches or Ph.D diploma spam in my mailbox for years now.

btw., my son lives in Boston, MA. If I ask him to forward some of his spam to me could I still sue the originator? Please help me out with this issue Don Wooma. I need that million bucks and be rest assured that I do return all favors.

Sorry wbe: "Volunteering" to receive forwarded spam isn't going to qualify you for the million bucks under the US judicial system.

Damn! I knew it, I knew it.

Got to get quotes from the int'l movers here. How much would it cost you if you'd to move over here. Give me a figure to compare please.

Fortunately, I haven't trashed even a single empty bottle over the years. Last time I asked, the local garbageman said it'd worth 30 grand. It's good to have funding for the hard days.

I would like to note a couple of things here:

While Dan's quest for a spam-free internet is admirable, it appears he might be targeting legitimate email marketers instead of outright spammers. They list AdultFriendFinder as an example in that article. While AFF doesn't engage in spam, many of its affiliate do. While it is AFF's responsibility to regulate its affiliates, realistically this is unachievable. I feel this places unreal expectations upon AFF. Instead of suing AFF, he should have gone against the spam-happy affiliate.

Furthermore, I would like to note that a lot of legitimate email marketers often get confused with spammers. Believe it or not, there are actually people out there who send millions of emails with advertising to people who *gasp* want to receive them. At the same time, these email marketers must jump through ridiculous hoops to send out their mail, while their criminal counterparts are under no such obligation. Thus, the current laws do very little to combat spam in my opinion (we still receive ludicrous amounts of it after all), and make it exceedingly difficult for legitimate bulk mailers to operate. People like Dan, who don't appear to be able to differentiate in between the two, don't help the situation.

As for the settlements he's won against AFF, $4k is nothing. A mid-small range affiliate(a single person) on AFF will probably pull in $4k in pure profit weekly. AFF itself is probably making it in the millions, if not 10s of millions, monthly. Even symbolically, his victory is nothing.

To me he just seems to be another ambulance-chasing lawyer who is apt at spinning the media in his favor, except in this case his target is legitimate mailers who try to do things the legit way, and end up getting sued for their transparency. No wonder many people mailing these days feel obligated to operate out of shady real estate investment trusts or Panama corporations.

    I couldn't have said it better .

After reading about him my thoughts were,
big deal, he won a few grand.
The amount of time and money he spent is still
far beyond what he has won back.
