    Reality Cracking CNN's Bias

Those of you fond of Fravia's Reality Cracking section might find this Essay worth the download. This is version 0.9, I have an appendix that needs to be cleaned up but can't spare the time now.

    Essay: Is CNN biased?

Skimmed down public version mirrors (these are missing an unfinished appendix):
    http://www.fileden.com/files/2010/11/3/3007552/CNNBiaspub.pdf
    http://www.mediafire.com/file/fop37pdbdu6f2x6/CNNBiaspub.pdf

ABSTRACT: Knowing the bias of your news group of choice is vital to maintaining an accurate understanding of current events. Because disinformation and national propaganda movements have brazenly come to be the default form of media over the past several decades ~and~ because reason and logic have been so grotesquely under-endorsed, the need for public scrutiny of news sources has never been greater. This paper covers the topic of propaganda and media bias. It explicitly critiques CNN’s coverage of WikiLeaks’ Iraq War Logs disclosure, in the hopes that what the reader learns here can be applied to preserve against future instances of selective reporting and aggressive tabloid panhandling.

    Howdy,

I have encouraged are to post this to re-start the reality cracking section.

I will be participating in reality cracking because I believe it to be important
that you all have a better understanding of how things are manipulated to better serve a purpose that is not in your best interest.

The single most important thing to understand is that you should NEVER believe what you read in newspapers or see on TV.

Read, see or listen and then do your own research to determine what seems plausible.

You have a brain, use it and form your own thoughts.
Don't just blindly believe what you read or see.

    nice section, never seen it...

let me say just one thing:

if ALL people were forced in youth (=at school) to read and understand the contents of a 2000+ years old book - Aristotle's Sophistici Elenchi (and its "rethoric" as a complement), you would need very little more, no kidding... (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy).

Know them, be able to defend by them, and you turn off TV as it causes you nausea...
I want to know God's thoughts ...the rest are details.

Just so the "historical" record does not become too greatly confused, the concept of a "non-biased" public news organization is neither an accurate nor historical perspective on such organizations. It is only in relatively "recent" history that American news organizations have even made an "effort" to present anything other than their personal "biased" view of the news. Historically in the U.S. this was not the "norm" and it is not the "norm" in most countries.

There was some discussion on this on the radio here just the other day and it is fairly easy to determine the "perspective" of such organizations as Fox News and MSNBC and even CNN when listening to their content with a bit of "unbaised listening." In the discussion on that occassion, they were also talking about the ability to distinguish the perspective of most British news organizations, whether "conservative" or "labor" and that the pattern was much more "universal" than the "reality" or even "pretense" of "objective" reporting.

When one gets down to the news organizations in more autocratic countries, the results are even more clear. In many countries, the "news" is, or almost is a government monopoly, which is "biased" in whichever way the government wants.

    Regards,
    JMI

Haha, that's a good thought. Well personally, they'll have me dead a lot sooner than they will have paid for all the right places to be patched.

    The cruel question is:

How many $$ will be enough to change the routine of a substantial portion of the public from call Aborsb_Lies to call Question_Lies?

I found this http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/07/us/07fat.html story online and thought I might dig a little deeper into why I think the US Government
might allow itself to agree to such an asinine idea.

It mostly comes from who has money and how can they use that money to make more money.
The bigger problem arises from the corruption inherent in the system. The USA, like all
Governments are corrupt. We all know this. What amazes me is when they try to pull a stunt
like this one and get caught. They have a ton of excuses for what is clearly wrong.

In the USA, a good portion of farms are subsidized with money from the Government because
everyone needs to eat. God forbid a farm that cant make it should go out of business.
You also cant just start a commercial for profit farm without paying for the right to make
a living to the Government. They regulate everything pretty much over here concerning food.

So they give farmers money and the farmers form their own little "councils" to promote
their states farming which just so happens to involve them in financing what is called
Dairy Management. Dairy Management is a part of the USDA. The USDA gets their money from
the federal budget which gets its money from collecting taxes.
Myself and everyone else who live here pay for farmers whether we buy their stuff or not.
See how well laissez faire works here.

So the farmers give some of their subsidized money back to the government.
Kind of like a kick back. You give me a lot of money and I give you a little back.

With that money, the Dairy Management people, who would have no job because they get all their
money from the farmers, yet are controlled buy the government, decide to "help" out the
dairy farmers by working with Dominos Pizza. Their grand plan with Dominos is to put as much
cheese on a pizza as possible and then roll out a nifty advertising campaign to tell us all how great it is.
Dairy Management spent/gave Dominos 12 million dollars in order to poison the population with
saturated fat which produces numerous health problems including high cholesterol.

Care to chance how much the pharmaceutical lobby spends here?
Care to guess how much the sales of cholesterol drugs are in the country?

The lobby spends roughly 4 billion dollars to persuade doctors and others to use cholesterol drugs.
This results in around 8-10 billion in sales of cholesterol drugs.
Cholesterol comes from foods which have high amounts of saturated fat.
You know like, oh I don't know, MILK,CHEESE,BEEF, all things that come from cows.

While I can not prove that pharma is involved, I think it would be naive to think they are not.
After all, who should benefit if we all get fat and poisoned?
High blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol are the biggest money makers
for pharma in this country. Sadly, all those things are caused for the most part by eating
    things that come from cows.

To clarify one point, most farmers get subsidies, not all those who get them are dairy farmers.
    This is about dairy farmers.

I wonder what wheat, corn and soybean farmers are involved in.

My interpretation: the hiding of facts is done carefully for the consumption of the masses, this information affects the overall psyche, in many ways.
The rebuttle is would they allow it any otherway. And as woodmann documented in order,$$ and information are inextricably tied.so "keeping us fed, since init" does apply to some of the luckier ones...
