Cracking a packed?????

If i was to patch Electronic Workbench ver. 5.1, and i was getting an error message saying the file was either packed or the wrong version, what would i need to do (or what would i be doing wrong?)

You could try unpacking it...there are plenty of essays on unpacking around, just search a bit. There are also some good tools on http://protools.cjb.net
