Writing an EXE packer ?

Does anyone know of any tuts or other documentation on how this is done, or do I have to start from scratch? I already know quite a bit of the PE format (wrote a PE Viewer/Editor) so I'm hoping this will help me along.

I'm not interested in beating any current packer - I'd like to do this project just for fun really, and as an exercise.
