View Full Version : SI4.05 with winMe

my pc runs windows Me, and i installed softice9x 4.05 on it, along with the windows debugging kit(which M$ said was required to run softice on winMe). SI still wont work. It always freezes when i run winice.exe and gives the error 'enhanced windows 386 is already running'
why is it doing this?
also, on compuware's site, they mentioned something about a patch for winMe, but i couldnt find it. is it required? also, where can i get it?

What you need to do FIRST is to go back to the very first page of this Forum and READ THE POSTING GUIDLINES. Had you done so you would have discovered that you should have done a search on your question BEFORE you posted. What that would have caused you to discover is that your question has been asked, and answered, before. There are even at least three other posts with the same title as yours and several more with the same title without the "4.05" reference to Softice. In the search box enter "softice + WinME"and you will find the information you need.

The files you need to find are "sice4me.zip" and the MS DDK for WinME. You need to do your own search on the net to find these files, although some locations are given on these threads which may still be available.

sorry! i read the guidelines as soon as i joined, but i must've skipped over that....i'll do a search now....(boy this is a bad way to start out X.x)

The object is not to punish for doing it the wrong way, but to teach how to do it the right way. If the lesson is learned, that is a good thing. You will notice that it didn't just say read the rules, it advised you how to find the answer. Usually giving one the answer teaches little. Teaching how to find the answer makes one who learns the lesson a better reverse engineer because now you can help yourself as well.

I got it to work! finally.....Man i am a total n00b....go figure, i got it to run under winMe, but the program i need to crack is on my windows xp computer (ie, stylexp1.01), and si dont work under xp. *shrugs* im sure i can find something to crack under Me

neh, i used the converted io.sys thing....but, when i reboot, it says something along the lines of 'user.nms not found'...im not sure if that's a problem, because SI works fine in windows....if it becomes a major problem i'll consult the ever-powerful search.

i have a modified version of the wmldr05.zip loader for windows ME if anyone wants it so it defaults not to load softice and you need to press escape to load softice cos i found the original way to be a pain
