Greetings,
This question may have been discussed before, but I haven't been around for a while, so here it is:
Is there a way to get Softice installed on Win XP Pro? And working?
Is it fair game, or are there any spesific problems I then should be aware of?
All kinds of input are welcomed....

Regards,
hob

I mean a cleaner install since that XP uses the same kernal that NT does. I would figure that there would be a patch to use the existing ntsice than to develop a *new* xpsice.

We cant say the same kernel as NT. Its based on NT .But its far more developed . Or they want us to think so.lol

Hello EtErNaL_L0ser !

We can say it is far more developed, but we can't guess in which direction.

Of course many things have changed, but I stay at Win98 and WinNT4. In my oppinion, they're easier to handle and to use (and I don't mean the graphical changes )

Well, hmemcpy was only usefull when everything else failed (getwindowtext, getdlgitemtext etc...) but other then that not really nessecary. There are always other ways to get there.

I was wondering if you could use the XP DDK from Microsoft to help install NTice on the XP os...

Hello everybody !

This doesn't sound so good. Anyway, I never thought of updating to WinXP.

Win2000 and WinME made me stay at Win98 and WinNT4.

Nope, it won't work... You'll need a special update for WindowsXP final and I sure hope Numega will release it soon.

Hey ppl,

This has been said to work. Can somebody test it please. Hmemcpy still won't work though.

would say: install the 4.05 version of SoftIce for 98 and select the windows 98 compatibility settings under the compatibility settings.

The basic settings are as follows:

If an older application gives you trouble when running Windows XP, you can set the compatibility properties manually so that the program runs in a different mode, such as Windows 95, or in a different display or resolution setting. To set the compatibility properties for a program:

Right-click the executable or the program shortcut to the executable, and then click Properties.
Select the Run this program in compatibility mode check box.
From the list, select an operating system that the program runs in comfortably.
If necessary, also change the display settings and/or resolution, or disable the Windows XP visual themes.
Run the program again when you're finished changing the settings. Adjust the compatibility settings again if the program is still not running smoothly: a program that's unhappy on Windows 2000 may flourish on Windows 98.
