View Full Version : Advice sought regarding old wildtangent programs?

Hello to all, newcommer starlord here.

I hope you will not find my request intrusive or disruptive: I would like to ask someone who has already experience with the wildtangent client system (possibly shub-niggurath), if the various tools created by ARteam could be also applied to the older wildtangent programs (those running on the web driver) which are not supported anymore (back in the 2000-2001 years).

Basically, should the tools not be meant for those archaic games, I would like to ask you advice: does it seem possible to you to somehow make them run today (if possible in their unlocked version), given that I think they are internet dependent and are linked to a page that now doesn't exist? please understand I'm not asking for the creation of a tool of any kind: I'm simply interested to know if those programs could be potentially preserved from oblivion or not and therefore I'm asking for your advice. Believe it or not, some people's childhood were influenced by those programs.

Examples of those programs include but are not limited to: spacerocks, sabrewing (1 and 2), dark orbit (the first version), etc...

I hope I've been clear enough for you (despite the fact that this clearly isn't my area of expertise).

Thank you for your time, gentlemen!

best regards to all.

Howdy,

You can still download the trials and unlock them.

Unless I completely misunderstand your question,
which happens quite often with me.

thanks for your answer woodmann

well the thing is, first of all, the program does not execute with an .exe file, but rather an .html page. also my particular version seems not to work because of that wildtangent web driver it relies on (this being obsolete tech right now so unsupported).

Also, I'm more concerned that the reason it doesn't work is simply because the web page with the game content is offline/404ed. however, in one trial version I tested of spacerocks, it seemed to work fine (without internet) on a win xp system. however, I don't know if unlocking is possible as I haven't tried it. seems this problem is a little too much for me to handle at my neophyte level of expertise...

I could point you to the trial version of spacerocks I found provided I have the right to post links...

Additionnally, I recall some people on mygully having clamed to patch and unlock some old WT titles but sadly the downloads are long gone (and so is the poster). So I'm still at a loss whether it can be done or not.

Also, given shub's efforts regarding his WT revirginiser, I was actually wondering if there is still the possibility of somehow retrieving the games in .EXE form should they still be stored "somewhere" provided WT hasn't taken down the pages yet (which seems unlikely).

I hope that's somehow clear. I can give to the interested access to 2 programs (trials) using that method (spacerocks and sabrewing 2).

many thanks and best regards.

Well I'll be damned.....

I tried sabrewing2 and sure as shit it needed to connect.
I am now curious as to how this worked back in the day.

Lemme see what I can find.

Thank you for your help woodmann. Anything we can learn could be useful!

is it also an .html file like spacerocks or is there a native .exe somewhere in there?

woodmann, I know that sabrewing 1 was accessible through a website, although I don't have much more info than that. I think the wayback machine has a few remnants of the original page. I'll post the link as soon as I retrieve it.
