Which one is better? Why is HVIEW so popular? It's a sorry DOS program...

Anyway, what're the pro's and con's of all those HexEdits?

HIEW is not a "sorry dos program". It has the most options of any hex editor (except maybe BIEW, which is free...but slower). It automatically converts addresses and it can disassemble. You can make scripts for it, etc. It is the best hex editor IMO, but I guess some people dont like it. Just use what you like but I'd recommend trying to learn some stuff about HIEW before saying it sucks

HIEW ROCKS! ;-)

Simply because of the fact that you can make changes in asm and set the base address, letting you find what you need in softice (which by the way also has a slightly less than "user friendly" gui [see a pattern here? ;-) ]), and make changes permanent in HIEW, using the same addresses/opcodes, etc.. No searching for byte sequences, or offsets.
