Ilfak appears to have spun-off the Hex-Rays decompiler into a new company.

From http://www.hex-rays.com/about.shtml --
"Founded in 2007, privately held, Belgium based, Hex-Rays sprl focuses on the development of robust binary analysis tools for the IT security market... Mr. Guilfanov, the founder and CEO of Hex-Rays sprl, holds BSc in Mathematics from Moscow State University."

Did he split from DataRescue?

Actually, Pierre and Ilfak complimented each other so well.... It'll be a shame if they split up. Wonder if we'll get upgrades to IDA in event they *have* indeed split up...

I <<was>> looking to buy IDA and Hex-Rays, but 2600 EUR for these two is out of my budget. Apparently they don't want to sell the damn thing and i think IDA is doing all the hard work.

The costs are for sure high, but luckily not as much as you say:

* IDA Adv + Decompiler = 690 E + 1500 E = 2190 Euros
* IDA Std + Decompiler = 360 E + 1500 E = 1860 Euros

Anyway, its pretty expensive... Would also love to see a demo to understand how nicely it works

Add 19% Greek VAT for each of the products (i also rounded that, actually its 6 euros more)

Yikes! It would be cheaper to hire some mercenaries to steal it from their company offices rather than buy a legit copy!

Would that be the "Red Pill" or the "Blue Pill??

And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you

Almost $2000 dollars!, yao, I don't think I will be trying it anytime soon. Like someone said before, it would be nice if they have a trial version one that we can temporary play with.

We all know in what way we (or at least some of us) would be playing with it

Well they have a free private beta version, but AFAIK it hasn't leaked.
Maybe if some of you were more trustworthy, Ilfak would have given you a copy of the beta

I remember a 256-byte (!) demo written probably ten years ago that was a self-disassember, i.e. it'd disassemble itself, although that was a very limited disassembler that would only disassemble the instructions contained in the disassembler itself.

Running a decompiler on itself is a very good way to see if it works empirically; so far none of the (pubicly available) decompilers I've tried have been successful at decompiling themselves.
